Oil and Water
My encounter with Mirka Van Renswoude photography was a kind of love at first sight. Those simple, vivid, crisscrossing shapes seemed to float in a space that, to the inexperienced eye, could be mistaken for the lines of an illustration in vibrant colors and bold compositional schemes.

There was, and it is necessary to specify, a deep force in each image, a simple language in its forms, but of a poetic complexity whose speech directs towards a thought that speaks to us of the not capricious authenticity of the beauty that exists around us.

“Beauty is everywhere, in nature, in you, in me, in our daily lives, even in things that may not seem beautiful in the first place. All we have to do is watch it. "

With that phrase, Mirka seems to describe her unique and minimalist style of photography, she feels close to her and is capable of transmitting those feelings to those who observe each universe contained in the expressive simplicity of her images. Their yellow and blue backgrounds and the handling of the darkness that awakens the light in each shot stand out.

In “Oil and Water” it stands out how two adverse elements, rivals, receive each other to specify beauty and dismiss their antagonisms, and it is at that moment when the capture that inspires Mirka's photography Van Renswoude takes place.

“These minimalist images of water and oil suggest stillness and peace, conveying the seemingly contradictory qualities of water as soft yet powerful. They capture the beauty of the moment, ever-changing. Most images do not have a fixed orientation, but they can take different forms, just like water. "

With these images from the Oil and Water collection, Mirka joins other minimalist photographers such as Masao Yamamoto with his minimalism in small format, Hiroshi Sujimoto, and his horizons naked of pretense; or Rohan Reilly with the serenity of his minimalist compositions with a perhaps intentional purpose of showing the beauty of the simple and impermanent.

The Virtual Gallery "Alexi Rojas" is pleased to present the fascinating Artistic work of Mirka Van Renswoude.
